Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 is a fixed-feature Windows build for kiosks, production systems and other devices that must stay unchanged for years.
Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 is the Long-Term Servicing Channel release of the Enterprise edition, built on Windows 10 version 1809 and released on 13 November 2018. Microsoft describes it as Windows 10 Pro plus the security, deployment and management features larger organisations need, and it combines the improvements of versions 1703, 1709, 1803 and 1809 in one fixed build.
What separates this edition from regular Windows 10 Enterprise is its servicing model. It receives monthly quality updates with security and reliability fixes, yet it never receives feature updates, so the interface and system components stay the same for the life of the release. Components that change often are left out, including the Microsoft Edge browser, the Microsoft Store and the in-box Windows apps, because the release is meant for special-purpose devices that do one important job.
Typical installations are machines where a change in behaviour would cause real problems: a workstation controlling a production line, a PC attached to laboratory or medical equipment, a point-of-sale terminal, an information kiosk or a control-room computer that must run the same validated software for years. Twice-yearly feature changes would add testing effort and risk there without helping the task the machine performs.
In practice, an IT team builds one reference image with the business application, validates it once and rolls it out to every comparable device. Routine work then shrinks to approving the monthly cumulative updates. Users get the classic Windows 10 desktop with Internet Explorer 11, which Microsoft patches for the life of the release, and administrators who need a modern browser can deploy the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge separately. Operations, engineering and infrastructure teams benefit most.
Security is the main reason to choose the Enterprise base. Credential Guard isolates Active Directory domain credentials so that malware cannot easily harvest them for pass-the-hash attacks, and Microsoft reserves it for Enterprise and Education editions. Windows Defender Application Control defines which code may run at all, which suits single-purpose devices because their list of permitted software is short and stable. BitLocker encrypts drives and can be enforced through device management policy, while controlled folder access helps stop ransomware from altering protected folders.
For administration, this build works with Microsoft Intune, Configuration Manager and Group Policy; the only Intune exception is that update rings cover quality updates alone. Start and taskbar layouts can be locked through MDM policies, applications can be streamed with App-V, and provisioning packages enrol machines into Microsoft Entra ID in bulk. Windows Hello for Business supports PIN, biometric and FIDO2 key sign-in, and the Windows Subsystem for Linux is available for engineering tools that need a Linux environment.
The general availability release of Windows 10 Enterprise shares most security features but follows the regular feature-update cycle, includes Edge and the Store, and its standard support ended in October 2025. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is based on version 21H2 and brings newer components, yet Microsoft lists only mainstream support for it, ending in January 2027, while LTSC 2019 stays in extended support for two more years. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2019 matches this feature level but is supplied preinstalled by device manufacturers, so this version is the practical choice for existing PCs.
Without the Microsoft Store, software distributed only as a Store app cannot be installed in the usual way, and in-box apps such as Mail, Calendar and Photos are missing. Microsoft also notes that apps and tools designed for the general availability channel may offer only limited support for LTSC releases. Confirm with the vendor of each business application, including your Office version, that this build is supported. Switching an existing Home or Pro installation to this edition normally means a clean installation, and the system is not intended as a general office desktop.
Does this edition include Microsoft Edge or the Microsoft Store?
Neither is part of the installation. Internet Explorer 11 is included and keeps receiving security fixes, and the current Edge can be added separately.
Will the system gain new Windows features over time?
No, updates are limited to monthly security, reliability and bug fixes. The feature level remains that of version 1809, so later additions such as Windows Sandbox from version 1903 are absent.
Does Microsoft still publish security updates for this release?
Yes. Under the Fixed Lifecycle Policy, mainstream support ended on 9 January 2024, and extended support with security updates runs until 9 January 2029.
