It adds 128- and 256-bit AES encryption, so you can password-protect a folder of contracts or scans before emailing it. The edition connects directly to Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive, letting you zip and upload in a single step. WinZip SafeShare then bundles compression, encryption, and sending into one guided workflow.

Which file formats can WinZip Standard open and create?

WinZip Standard creates archives in the Zip and Zipx formats, with Zipx applying stronger methods such as LZMA and PPMd to reach smaller file sizes. For extraction it opens a much wider set, including 7Z, RAR, TAR, GZ, CAB, ISO, IMG, LHA, VHD, and VMDK. That means you can unpack a colleague's RAR download or an ISO image without a second tool, even though every new archive you build will be Zip or Zipx. It does not create 7Z or RAR files, so choose Zipx when you need maximum compression in a WinZip-native archive.

Does WinZip Standard include automated backups?

No, automated Backup jobs and the Job Wizard belong to WinZip Pro and Enterprise, not Standard. Standard can still manually zip a folder and copy it to a connected cloud service, but it will not run scheduled, unattended backups or write to CD, DVD, or Blu-ray on a timer. The automatic computer shutdown after a backup run is also limited to Pro and Enterprise. If regular hands-off backups are your main goal, plan for WinZip Pro rather than assuming Standard covers it.

Who is WinZip Standard best suited for?

WinZip Standard fits someone who regularly receives mixed archive types and needs to encrypt files before sending them, rather than someone building automated backup routines. Does WinZip Standard include System Utilities or a driver updater?

No. WinZip System Utilities, including the driver updater and disk-cleanup tools, ship in the separate WinZip Ultimate suite, not in Standard. Standard focuses on compression, encryption, and sharing, so it will not scan for outdated drivers or clean your system. Choose Ultimate if PC-maintenance tools are what you are after.

Can WinZip Standard scan files for viruses before extracting?

WinZip can scan a Zip file for viruses before extraction using the antivirus software already installed on your PC. It does not include its own antivirus engine, so the actual protection depends on the security tool you already run.
