OmniPage 19.2 Ultimate is a Windows OCR application that turns scans, image PDFs and camera photos into editable Word, Excel, ePub and searchable PDF files. It is built for recurring conversion work rather than occasional single-page scanning.
Camera Capture – Turns phone or camera photos into editable text.
Launchpad Tiles – One-click tiles run frequent conversion jobs quickly.
Network Routing – DocuDirect watches shared scanner folders across the network.
Layout Retention – Keeps columns, tables and graphics in converted files.
Bundled Components – PaperPort and Power PDF Create install alongside OmniPage.
Cloud Destinations – Saves converted output to Evernote or SharePoint.
It reads text out of scanned images and image-only PDFs and rebuilds it as an editable file with the original column, table and graphic structure intact. The typical case is a supplier contract or an old archived report that exists only as a scan: instead of retyping it, you convert it to .docx or .xlsx and edit the clauses or figures directly. The eDiscovery Assistant handles the reverse situation, where a mixed PDF already contains real text on some pages and scans on others – it OCRs only the image pages so existing text and annotations are not overwritten. Output can be written straight to a folder, an email or a cloud destination without opening each file.
It suits offices that digitise documents on a schedule rather than occasionally. A bookkeeping or back-office team that receives dozens of scanned invoices by email each morning can point the Workflow Assistant at the mailbox or a watched folder and have the files converted and filed before anyone opens them. Legal and records staff benefit from the searchable-PDF path, because case bundles stay byte-for-byte intact while becoming full-text searchable. For a single user scanning a few pages a month, the automation and forms tooling in this edition will go unused.
Ultimate adds forms handling, PDF security and network routing that Standard does not have. Standard 18.0 still performs core OCR and produces searchable PDFs and Office output, so the upgrade is about automation and document control, not raw recognition. The most practical differences are form data capture to CSV, the ability to append converted content to an existing PDF, and applying digital signatures or 256-bit encryption at output. Tungsten's own comparison chart covers OmniPage Ultimate 19.2 against OmniPage Standard 18.0, which are the two current desktop editions.

It exports to PDF, Microsoft Office formats, Corel WordPerfect, HTML, XML, RTF, XPS and ePub. PDF output covers image, searchable image, normal, edited, PDF/A and linearized variants, which matters when an archive or a court filing system will only accept PDF/A. Version 19.2 offers three separate converter choices for ePub output, so scanned material can be prepared for e-readers rather than only for print. Form data can additionally be exported as .csv for import into a spreadsheet or database.
No – OmniPage applies certificate-based digital signatures and password protection to PDF output, but it is not a signature-request or audit-trail platform. That means you can sign and encrypt a converted document yourself, yet you cannot send it out for countersigning and track who opened it. Teams that need a full signing workflow with recipient routing use a dedicated e-signature product alongside OmniPage. For internal document integrity and 256-bit encrypted archiving, the built-in signing is sufficient.

The hard stop is the platform: OmniPage runs on Windows only and Tungsten confirms there is no Mac-compatible version. Scanning volume is the second check – Tungsten directs users processing more than 1,000 pages per week toward OmniPage Server or the Capture SDK instead of the desktop edition. SharePoint integration also depends on the server side, requiring SharePoint Server 2010, 2013, 2016 or 2019. Scanning requires a WIA, TWAIN or ISIS driver, so very old or driverless devices will not appear in the Scanner Wizard.
Yes. The installation includes PaperPort and the Power PDF Create component in addition to the OmniPage application itself. Because Power PDF Create is shared with other Tungsten desktop products, installing it can conflict with an existing Kofax or Tungsten PDF installation on the same machine.
Yes. 3D Correction technology straightens and corrects camera images before recognition, and Tungsten specifies a 2-megapixel auto-focus camera as the minimum for text capture. This is the practical route for capturing a document when no scanner is nearby, such as a signed delivery note on site.
Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 appear in the 19.2 specifications, and DocuDirect is designed to sit on a network server with a watched folder. It remains a desktop-class product, so a shared scanning setup for a workgroup is realistic while high-volume centralised capture is not.
The Workflow Assistant is the job manager previously called Batch Manager and handles timed, recurring and unattended jobs on the local machine. DocuDirect covers shared scanning environments and routes documents from MFPs, folders or email to predefined destinations for several users.

| Note | Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or above is required in current official system requirements and older support articles also list Internet Explorer 8 or above. Microsoft Office integration requires Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 2, 2013 Service Pack 1, 2016, or 2019 in 32-bit or 64-bit versions. SharePoint integration is documented for SharePoint Server 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019. Scanner support requires WIA, TWAIN, or ISIS drivers. East Asian language handling must be installed in Windows to view Japanese, Chinese, or Korean documents. Web access is required for download, activation, registration, live update, cloud connectors, and scanner database updates. DVD drive is required only for disc installation. 2-megapixel digital camera with autofocus or higher is required for camera text capture. PaperPort must be installed separately even though it is included with the suite. OmniPage Ultimate is a 32-bit application that can run on 64-bit systems. Older official support also notes the product is not designed to install or operate in Citrix, Windows Terminal Service, or Server operating system configurations. |
