What is included in Paragon APFS Business?

Automatic Mounting – APFS drives appear in Windows Explorer automatically.
Read-Write Access – Edit, copy, and delete files directly.
Disk Image Mounting – Opens raw forensic images and virtual disks.
Windows Server Support – Runs on Server 2008 R2 through 2022.
Core Capacity – Full read-write on basic single-disk APFS volumes.
Important – FileVault and snapshot volumes mount read-only; Apple Silicon unsupported.

What are the main benefits of Paragon APFS Business?

Paragon APFS Business is a low-level Windows driver that gives PCs read and write access to Apple File System (APFS) drives without reformatting them. It carries commercial use rights, so the same cross-platform file access is permitted on company workstations, lab machines, and supported Windows Server systems.

No Reformatting – Access Mac drives without erasing their data.
Commercial Use – Permitted on company and business machines.
Mixed-OS Workflows – Move files between Mac and Windows teams.
Forensic Imaging – Mount evidence images for read-only investigation.
Low Overhead – Uses minimal CPU, memory, and disk resources.
Server Deployment – Installs on supported Windows Server releases.

What does Paragon APFS Business do?

Paragon APFS Business is a low-level file system driver that lets a Windows PC read and write Apple File System (APFS) drives without reformatting them. Once installed, it loads during the Windows startup sequence and auto-mounts connected APFS volumes, so they appear in File Explorer like any other disk. On a basic single-disk APFS volume mounted in write mode, you can open, edit, create, and delete files directly. It is built on Paragon's File System Link technology, the same cross-platform engine behind the company's NTFS and HFS+ drivers.

What is the difference between the home and business editions?

The core driver and feature set are identical; the difference is the permitted use. The standard APFS for Windows product is licensed strictly for home use, while Paragon APFS Business adds commercial use rights for company workstations, lab machines, and server-class systems. The technical capabilities — read-write access, auto-mounting, and disk-image support — are the same, so the decision is about whether the deployment is personal or commercial rather than about extra features. If you access Mac-formatted media in any paid or organizational setting, the business edition is the compliant choice.

Can it write to FileVault-encrypted or Apple Silicon Mac drives?

No — those volumes are either read-only or completely unsupported. A basic FileVault-encrypted APFS volume mounts in read-only mode, and any APFS volume that contains snapshots is also mounted read-only. APFS volumes on a Mac with a T2 security chip, and the internal hardware-encrypted SSDs of Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Macs, are not supported at all, so the practical use case is external and removable APFS drives rather than a modern Mac's built-in disk. Plan to use unencrypted external APFS media if you need full write access.

Which Windows and Windows Server versions does it support?

Paragon APFS Business runs on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11 in both 32-bit and 64-bit form, plus 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, 2012, 2016, 2019, and 2022. The Windows Server coverage is the main reason businesses choose this edition, because it lets a file or backup server read APFS media arriving from Mac-based design, video, or forensic teams. It works across common storage interfaces including SATA, SCSI, USB, and FireWire, and recognizes both MBR and GPT layouts. There is no macOS or Linux client here — it is a Windows-side driver only.

Who gets the most value from Paragon APFS Business?

Paragon APFS Business is most useful to teams where Mac-formatted drives regularly land on Windows machines and reformatting is not an option. A video or photo studio can pull footage off an APFS external SSD handed over by a Mac editor without first booting a Mac. Digital forensics and e-discovery staff benefit from the bundled image mounter, which opens bit-to-bit raw images and VMDK/VHDX virtual disks so APFS evidence can be examined read-only on a Windows workstation. System administrators run it on Windows Server to make APFS media available to shared workflows without provisioning extra Mac hardware.

What should you check before choosing Paragon APFS Business?

Before buying, confirm that the APFS drives you need are external or removable and not the internal disk of a T2 or Apple Silicon Mac, because those are unsupported. Check whether your volumes are FileVault-encrypted or contain snapshots, since both mount read-only and will block writing. Decide whether you genuinely need commercial use rights — the business edition exists for company and lab machines, while a personal home PC is covered by the standard home edition with the same driver. Full write access depends on the target being an unencrypted, snapshot-free APFS volume on a single physical disk, so verify your media fits that profile.

Frequently asked questions about Paragon APFS Business

Can it move files directly between two APFS subvolumes?

No — moving a file from one APFS subvolume to another is not supported. You can copy files out to Windows storage and back instead, but a direct subvolume-to-subvolume move inside the container will not complete. The driver also cannot read one proprietary APFS compression method used for certain macOS system files, which stay readable only on a Mac.

Does it support APFS volumes on an Apple Fusion Drive?

No. Paragon APFS Business only works with APFS containers that sit on a single physical disk, and a Fusion Drive spans more than one. If diskutil shows more than one physical volume in the APFS volume group, that storage cannot be mounted.
