What backup and data protection does Nero Platinum include?

Nero Platinum includes Nero BackItUp, which runs automated, scheduled or continuous backups and keeps older versions of changed files so you can roll back after an accidental edit or deletion. You can write backups to an internal or external drive, a NAS, optical discs, or the OneDrive and Google Drive cloud services, and restore the same jobs from those locations. Backups are secured with hardware-accelerated AES 256-bit encryption and can start automatically whenever you plug in a chosen USB backup drive. That makes it a practical safety net for irreplaceable photo, video and document libraries that would be expensive to recreate after a disk failure.

Does Nero Platinum run on Mac?

No. Nero Platinum Suite 2026 is built and tested only for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, and there is no macOS or Linux version. It is a desktop product and is not intended for Windows Server environments, so it is not suited to server-based media archiving. Mac users who want comparable burning, editing and backup tools would need a different vendor, because the suite will not install on macOS.

Are the AI features free, or do they cost extra?

Some AI features run locally and free, while others draw on cloud credits. Nero AI Image Upscaler processes on your own PC, so private images are not uploaded, whereas cloud-powered tasks such as image upscaling, face recovery and AI subtitle translation consume Nero AI Credits, and each license includes 100 of them. Two tools buyers often assume are bundled are not: the full Nero AI Video Upscaler and the complete Nero Screen Recorder are separate products, and only the basic Screen Recorder ships inside the suite. If you rely heavily on cloud AI, plan for extra credits, which can be bought inside the Nero AI-enabled apps.

Should I buy the full suite or just Nero Video or Nero Burning ROM?

Choose the full suite if you need several jobs covered, and pick a standalone app if you only ever do one. Nero recommends Nero Platinum when you want video, photo, backup, burning and PC tuning together, Nero Video when your focus is editing and authoring video discs with menus, and Nero Burning ROM when your main task is copying and burning data or audio discs. Does Nero Platinum still show CD track, artist and album details in 2026?

Yes. Windows stopped automatically recognising CD metadata such as song title, artist and album name at the end of 2025, and Nero recommends Nero MediaHome or Nero Platinum to keep looking that information up. This matters if you still rip audio CDs and want tracks tagged correctly instead of showing as unknown.

Can Nero Platinum create DVDs and Blu-rays with menus?

Yes. Nero Video authors DVD, AVCHD and Blu-ray discs with custom menus and can export projects up to 8K at bitrates around 240 Mbps. The standalone Nero Burning ROM, by contrast, handles data, audio and disc copying but does not build video discs with menus.
