What are the main benefits of DVDFab UHD Copy?

DVDFab UHD Copy is dedicated software for backing up 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs to a disc, ISO, or folder while keeping the original 2160p quality. It targets home-theater owners who want to protect a physical 4K collection, not convert it into streaming files.

Out-of-Print Insurance – Preserves editions that become unavailable later.
Damage Protection – Replaces scratched or degraded original discs.
Storage Savings – Compresses titles onto cheaper BD50/BD25 media.
Lossless Clone – Clone/Burn keeps an exact 1:1 copy.
Media Server Ready – Generates .nfo metadata for Plex and Kodi.
Faster Backups – Hardware acceleration cuts copy time sharply.

What does DVDFab UHD Copy do?

DVDFab UHD Copy backs up 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs to a blank disc, an ISO image, or a folder on your hard drive, removing the disc's copy protection as it works. The source can be a physical UHD disc, an existing ISO, or a folder. Three modes cover different needs: Full Disc keeps menus and extras, Main Movie keeps only the feature film with your chosen audio and subtitle tracks, and Clone/Burn writes a sector-by-sector 1:1 replica. The output stays in 2160p Blu-ray disc structure rather than a single phone-friendly video file.

Does DVDFab UHD Copy convert 4K Blu-rays to MP4 or MKV files?

No. UHD Copy only produces disc-format backups — a burned BD100/BD50/BD25 disc, an ISO image, or a Blu-ray folder — and keeps the original disc structure. To turn a 4K disc into an MP4, MKV, or M2TS file for a phone, tablet, or NAS, you need the separate DVDFab UHD Ripper, which is a different product. Buyers often assume "copy" includes ripping to a video file; with UHD Copy it does not. If your goal is streaming a movie through Plex or Infuse as one file, plan for the Ripper instead.

Do you need a special drive to copy 4K UHD Blu-rays?

Yes. A standard 1080p Blu-ray drive cannot read 4K Ultra HD physical discs, so a UHD-friendly drive is required before UHD Copy can use a disc source. Many drives also ship with firmware that blocks UHD reading; DVDFab's separate UHD Drive Tool can downgrade that firmware on supported internal and external models to make the drive usable. If you only work from existing ISO files or folders, the drive requirement does not apply. This hardware dependency is the most common reason a first backup attempt fails.

Does DVDFab UHD Copy keep HDR10 and Dolby Vision quality?

HDR10 is always retained, even when you compress a BD100 title down to BD50 or BD25. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are preserved only when you copy without compression, such as in Clone/Burn mode or an uncompressed Full Disc copy. If saving disc space matters more than dynamic metadata, compression keeps the 2160p resolution and HDR10 but drops Dolby Vision and HDR10+. For a Dolby Vision display, copy at full BD100 size to keep that layer intact.

Does DVDFab UHD Copy remove Cinavia protection?

No, not on its own. UHD Copy removes standard UHD disc encryption such as AACS, but Cinavia is a separate audio watermark that requires the add-on DVDFab UHD Cinavia Removal to clear. Without that module, a backup can still carry the Cinavia watermark, which some standalone players use to mute audio or halt playback. If your player enforces Cinavia, budget for the extra module when planning backups.

Is DVDFab UHD Copy available for Mac?

Yes. The UHD Copy module is included in the 64-bit Windows version and in macOS builds for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. It runs inside the DVDFab 13 application on either platform, so the copy modes and output options are the same.

Can DVDFab UHD Copy use an ISO file or folder as the source?

Yes. Besides a physical UHD disc, it can load an existing ISO image or a Blu-ray folder as the source and re-output it as a disc, ISO, or folder. This is useful for re-burning an earlier backup or compressing a stored BD100 image to a smaller blank without needing the original disc again.
