What does Foxit eSign do?

Foxit eSign turns a document into a signable agreement, routes it to one or more recipients, and returns a tamper-evident file with a Certificate of Completion. Fields for signatures, dates and data entry are placed by drag and drop, and multiple files can be bundled into a single multi-document envelope so a signer completes a contract, an addendum and a disclosure in one session. Every action is written to an audit trail that logs timestamps, IP addresses and signer identities, which is what makes a signed file defensible if the agreement is later disputed. Foxit Pay can also collect a deposit or fee at the same moment the signature is applied.

Who is Foxit eSign best suited for?

It suits organisations that send the same agreements repeatedly and need a documented signing record, such as clinics collecting patient consent, brokerages handling account changes, or schools processing enrolment forms. The practical reason is the compliance module set: HIPAA, FINRA, FERPA, CCPA and 21 CFR Part 11 can be switched on per workflow instead of being bought as separate products. A recruiter sending twenty offer letters uses the template library so field positions, signing order and reminder settings are not rebuilt each time. Individuals who only sign an occasional document will not use most of this and may find the free Foxit signing tool sufficient, though signatures collected there are not legally binding.

What is the difference between Foxit eSign Essentials and eSign Business?

Essentials is a single-user plan capped at 250 envelopes and 10 templates, while Business removes both caps and adds the automation layer. The features that most often force an upgrade are signable web forms, API access, bulk signing and advanced form fields, none of which exist in Essentials. Business also unlocks knowledge-based authentication and SSO, so regulated teams that must verify signer identity beyond an email link need that tier. Business is sold from five licences upwards, so a two-person office cannot buy it as a small step up from Essentials.

Does Foxit eSign include OCR or PDF editing tools?

No. Foxit eSign prepares and routes documents for signature but does not recognise text in scanned files and does not edit page content. Foxit places OCR in Foxit PDF Editor as Scan to PDF and in Maestro Server OCR for high-volume server work, so a scanned contract uploaded to eSign stays an image with signature fields placed on top of it. In practice that means a signed scan is not searchable and its text cannot be copied afterwards, which matters if the agreement later needs to be indexed in a records system. Teams that need editing, redaction and OCR alongside signing usually pair eSign with Foxit PDF Editor, which has the signing workflow built directly into its interface.

Which file types and devices does Foxit eSign support?

The mobile app accepts PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, CSV, TXT, RTF and PNG, so a Word contract does not have to be converted before it is sent. Signing works on desktop browsers, tablets and phones, and the iOS and Android apps include an offline mode that lets a field technician prepare and sign on site before syncing when a connection returns. The mobile camera can also capture a paper form and turn it into a signable agreement without a scanner. In-person signing is supported for situations where both parties are at the same desk, and the signing interface is available in sixteen languages.

What should users check before choosing Foxit eSign?

Check three things: the yearly envelope volume, whether templates beyond ten are needed, and whether signer identity must be verified beyond a simple email link. Essentials assigns its licence to one dedicated user, so a shared account across a team is not the intended setup, while Business starts at five licences. If signatures must reach the Qualified Electronic Signature level under eIDAS, note that Foxit delivers this through a ZealiD integration that requires a separate paid ZealiD account. Also confirm whether the documents being sent need OCR or content edits first, since that work has to happen in a PDF editor before upload.

Frequently asked questions about Foxit eSign

Are Foxit eSign signatures valid in the European Union?

Yes. Foxit eSign signatures align with eIDAS and GDPR alongside the US ESIGN Act and UETA. For the highest assurance level, Qualified Electronic Signatures are provided through a ZealiD integration that requires a separate paid ZealiD account.

Can documents be notarised through Foxit eSign?

Yes, through the On-Demand Notary service, which connects signers with certified notaries for remote online notarisation. It is priced as an add-on rather than being included in either the Essentials or Business plan.

Can Foxit eSign be used inside Foxit PDF Editor?

Yes. Foxit eSign is built into Foxit PDF Editor, so an open PDF can be turned into an agreement and sent for signature without leaving the editor. This is the practical route for teams that need to edit or redact a document immediately before sending it.

Which systems does Foxit eSign connect to?

Storage and workflow platforms including Google Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint and Box are supported, along with Salesforce for document generation and signing from CRM records. Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Dynamics, WordPress Forms and Zapier connections require the Business plan.
