VM Backup creates image-level backups of Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware virtual machines and can restore a full VM, an individual file, or an Exchange mailbox item from those backups. The Mixed Environment license lets one installation protect both hypervisors at the same time, so a site running ESXi hosts alongside Hyper-V servers does not need two separate products. Backups are agentless and run while VMs stay online, and application-consistent (VSS) backups keep SQL Server and Exchange data in a recoverable state. Restores can target the original host or a different one, which matters when you are rebuilding after a hardware failure.
The Mixed Environment license suits IT teams that run both Hyper-V and VMware in the same network and want one tool and one console for every host.
